Best Mics for Sony A7C

Sony A7C was released in September 2020. What makes it special is the fact that it packs a full-frame sensor, while keeping the size and weight to a minimum. Design-wise, this camera is very similar to Sony’s APS-C cameras like the A6600 but when it comes to specs it is very similar to the A7III. This means it has a 24MP full-frame sensor, 4K video recording at up to 30 fps, 1080p at up to 120 fps, great autofocus performance and more!

The camera also sports a fully-articulating screen, making it an excellent choice for YouTubers and other video creators. It’s also a great B-cam and it can be used for wedding videography, interviews and so much more. Of course, if you plan on using it for serious videography, we highly suggest investing in an external microphone. For most cases, an on-camera shotgun mic will do the trick. Alright, let’s check out out the best mics for Sony A7C.

Best Microphones for Sony A7C

Bellow, we’ll go over four different mics, all of which have unique features and come in at different prices. Without further ado, here are the best mics for the A7C.

Rode VideoMic NTG

If you want the ultimate on-camera microphone with the most features for your A7C, Rode VideoMic NTG is your best option. The mic is made out of high-quality aluminum and is very well built. As you’d expect from a high-end microphone, it delivers top-notch audio quality that is natural and uncolored.

The NTG features a gain control dial for smooth gain adjustments, a safety channel, as well as a rechargeable battery. On top of that, the mic will turn on or off depending on the state of your camera, thus preserving battery life. Of course, advanced features like a high-pass filter (reduces far-away noises like rumble of air conditioners) and high frequency boost (enhances clarity in the treble range) are also here! Another feature we love about this mic is the fact that you can use it with your computer or smartphone as well, increasing its versatility. Overall, this mic is our favorite choice for Sony A7C.

Sony ECM-B1M

Just like the A7SIII, the new A7C features an updated hot-shoe mount, which enables it to use Sony’s excellent ECM-B1M microphone that was released alongside the A7RIV. What makes this mic unique is the fact that it can deliver digital audio stream directly to the camera through the new shoe mount, which means you don’t have to connect it to the mic input using wires. The mic is also powered by the camera, which means the whole setup very easy to use and it looks beautiful as well!

Of course, like you’d expect from a microphone with this price tag, the ECM-B1M doesn’t disappoint when it comes to audio quality. It doesn’t have as many advanced features like the aforementioned VideoMic NTG, but it does come with a noise cancelling feature that works quite well. This mic stands out because of the convenience factor and it is definitely one of the best choices for the A7C.

Deity V-Mic D3

If you’re searching for a more affordable microphone that is relatively compact and sounds pretty great, you should definitely consider the Deity V-Mic D3. This microphone is powered by an AAA battery and it lasts quite a while (about 160 hours of recording time). Just like the Rode NTG, Deity V-Mic D3 will also work with your smartphone or computer, which is a great bonus.

You’ll save quite a bit of money by going with this mic instead of previous microphones we mentioned but you’ll be sacrificing most advanced features. However, for certain uses like YouTube videos or vlogging, this can be a great option!

Rode VideoMicro

Sony A7C is an extremely compact camera (especially considering it has a full-frame sensor), and if you are searching for a super compact microphone to pair it with, Rode’s VideoMicro is a pretty solid option. It sounds quite good for its size, although not as good as previous microphones we mentioned but that’s understandable.

The mic doesn’t have any special features besides the fact that you don’t have to worry about batteries – the VideoMicro is completely powered by the camera. If you want a very affordable and small microphone, this is definitely the one to consider!
