Best Mics for Fujifilm X-T3

Although the X-T4 has been released in early 2020, Fujifilm X-T3 is still being sold and is now more affordable than ever. That’s a great option for people who may not need certain features that come with the X-T4, such as in-body image stabilization or a fully-articulating screen. While they are pretty useful for video shooters, you can save quite a bit of money by going with the X-T3. Both cameras share the same 26MP APS-C sensor and can shoot 4K videos at up to 60 fps, which is great.

Fujifilm X-T3 can be used in almost any situation you can think for, from wedding videography, interviews, YouTube videos and so much more! Of course, you should pair it with a solid external microphone for high-quality audio, if you plan on using this camera for serious videography. Alright, let’s check out some of the best mics for Fujifilm X-T3.

Best Microphones for Fuji X-T3

In this guide, our focus will be on on-camera microphones and we are going to cover three different models. All of them have certain unique features about them but the one thing they have in common is the fact that they’re made by Rode. We had the best experience using their microphones with Fuji cameras, as they work straight out of the box and don’t require any additional cables, which is not true for some other mics we’ve encountered. With that in mind, here are the best microphones for Fuji X-T3.

Rode VideoMic NTG

Not only is the VideoMic NTG the newest on-camera microphone made by Rode (as of the time of writing this guide), but it’s also the most versatile option. It features a brand new capsule that sounds really good and offers natural, well-balanced audio. Of course, all features you’d expect from a high-end mic are here – a rechargeable battery, a gain knob on the back of the device for smooth gain adjustments, as well as the auto on/off feature.

The NTG has a couple of additional features that make it an excellent choice including a high-pass filter (reduces wind noise, traffic noise etc.), high-frequency boost, and even a safety channel. Finally, not only is this a great on-camera microphone, but you can also attach it to your computer and smartphone via a USB port and use it for podcasts or voiceovers. All things considered, this mic is truly the best buy right now.

Rode VideoMic Pro+

The VideoMic Pro+ is an update to Rode’s most popular mic ever – the VideoMic Pro. It brings many needed modern features, while sounding nearly identical. The mic now has a rechargeable battery but there’s also an option to power it with off the shelf AA batteries. This is something you can’t really do on the aforementioned VideoMic NTG and can be quite useful.

This mic delivers high-quality audio, although it is different than the NTG. The low-end is slightly more pronounced. Whether you prefer this is up to your personal taste. The mic also comes with an auto on/off feature and a high-pass filter. It doesn’t have a gain dial, and you can instead adjust the gain using a button (you can set it to -10, 0 and +20dB). Overall, we prefer the NTG but we realize there may be some people who will find this microphone more useful in certain situations. Our favorite feature of this mic is the fact that you can use AA batteries when its out of juice.

Rode VideoMicro

In case you’re looking for a super compact microphone for your X-T3, the VideoMicro may be just what you need. It isn’t necessarily made for professional use, but it’s still a decent choice for YouTube videos or vlogging, for example. We love the fact that it’s very lightweight and doesn’t need batteries to work – it is completely powered by the camera. Of course, it won’t sound as great as other mics on the list, but it’s pretty solid and miles ahead of the camera’s built-in mic.
